What the Hanna pH Checker Actually Resolves
The HI98103 reads 0.0 to 14.0 pH, with a resolution of 0.1 pH and an accuracy of plus or minus 0.2 pH at room temperature. Resolution is the whole basis for choosing a pH tester.
Purchase directly from Growers HouseWhat the Hanna pH Checker Actually Resolves
The HI98103 reads 0.0 to 14.0 pH, with a resolution of 0.1 pH and an accuracy of plus or minus 0.2 pH at room temperature. Resolution is the whole basis for choosing a pH tester. For a grower holding a reservoir near a target of 5.8, a tenth of a point is usable and the tolerance is workable. Anyone who needs hundredths should be looking at a different tester rather than this one. What it does well is calibrate itself: automatic at one or two points, with the buffer recognised and tagged on the display. A stability hourglass tells you when to read, and the auto shut off can be set to 8 minutes, 60 minutes or disabled. The CR2032 lithium cell runs roughly 1000 hours, and the body measures 174 mm long by 50 mm wide.
Why the Kit Adds Full Bottles of Calibration Solution
Calibration solution is the part people run out of, and the bare meter ships with sachets rather than bottles. Two 20 mL pH 4.01 sachets and two of pH 7.01 go a very short way if you calibrate weekly. This kit adds 16 oz bottles of each, which is the practical difference between it and the tester alone. Hanna make their pH 4 buffer from potassium hydrogen phthalate and their pH 7 from potassium dihydrogen phosphate with disodium hydrogen phosphate. Both are standardised against NIST primary standard buffers, and every bottle carries a lot number, an expiry date and a pH against temperature chart. That chart matters because buffer values shift with temperature, so a cold bottle calibrates to a different number than a warm one. Never pour used buffer back into the bottle, and never calibrate in the bottle itself. Decant a little into a cup, use it, discard it. The electrode unscrews from the meter body, so a tired probe is a part rather than a new meter. Two cleaning solution sachets come with the tester, and a probe that reads slowly usually wants cleaning before it wants replacing.
