How the 6 Inch Back Draught Damper Seals an Idle Duct
Turn a fan off and the duct becomes a hole in your wall. Cold air comes back down it, and so does everything the neighbours are cooking.
Purchase directly from Growers HouseHow the 6 Inch Back Draught Damper Seals an Idle Duct
Turn a fan off and the duct becomes a hole in your wall. Cold air comes back down it, and so does everything the neighbours are cooking. This damper closes that path automatically: spring-loaded aluminium flaps that open on airflow and seat against a rubber seal when the fan stops. Housing is galvanized sheet steel.
Mounting a Backdraft Shutter in the Right Place
Spring loading is why this one can go in vertically as well as horizontally; a plain gravity flap cannot. Mount it after the fan, flaps opening with the flow. There is a trade-off worth naming: any damper in the airstream costs a little pressure, so size the fan with that in mind. Wipe the rubber seat occasionally, since grime on the seal is the usual reason a damper stops sealing. Listen for a soft clap when the fan stops; that is the flaps seating as they should.
Key Features
Spring-Loaded Aluminium Flaps: Open on airflow and close under spring pressure, with nothing to power.
Rubber Seal: Closes the gap at the seat so a stopped duct actually stays shut.
Galvanized Steel Housing: Corrosion-resistant in the damp air an exhaust run carries.
Horizontal or Vertical Mounting: Spring loading means it does not depend on gravity to close.
6 in Duct Fit: Matches Ruck 6 in components and standard 6 in ducting.
Fully Mechanical: No wiring, no actuator and no control signal to lose.
