How the TrolMaster Beta-4 Handles Day and Night Apart Two set points rather than one is the reason to choose this over a plain thermostat. A room under lamps carries a heat load that disappears when they go off. A single target then either overcools in the dark or undercools in the light. The Beta-4 holds a separate figure for each and moves between them on its own. A photocell built into the unit does that switching by reading room light. Nothing has to be wired to the lighting circuit, and no timer has to be kept in step with it. The control range is forty to a hundred degrees Fahrenheit. Three buttons and a digital display cover the whole interface. A temperature sensor comes in the box alongside the controller. The device being switched plugs into an outlet on the underside of the unit, which keeps the installation to two plugs and a sensor lead. The Deadband and the Load Rating The deadband on this unit is fixed at five degrees Fahrenheit, and that number is worth understanding before it goes in.
