Gardeners use this all natural blend as a raised bed amendment and garden mulch. It is perfect for enriching an existing bed, creating new flower or vegetable gardens. This compost blend can improve native soil to establish a lawn area. Improves soil moisture retention, aeration and drainage. Black Gold Natural & Organic Garden Compost Blend Features All-natural, Black Gold Natural & Organic Garden Compost, Blend offers a mixture of compost, bark and Canadian sphagnum peat moss to improve soil moisture retention, aeration, and drainage Gardeners use this blend as a raised bed amendment and garden mulch Provides organic matter to enrich poor soils or garden beds This top-quality garden amendment is OMRI Listed for organic gardening How to Use Black Gold Natural & Organic Garden Compost Blend Bed Prep: Incorporate this product into garden beds for organic matter. For in-ground gardens, cover weed-free beds with 1 to 2 inches of amendment, work it in using a hand spade or rototiller, then level the soil with a hard rake. (Use the chart below to calculate bags required for coverage.) For individual plantings, amend planting holes as needed. Design & Planning: Design garden beds using plants with similar light, soil, water, and nutrient needs. Consider height, color, and texture when designing for curb appeal. To save time and effort, choose easy, low-maintenance garden plants. Plan beds for the right season. Cool-season flowers and vegetables can endure mild spring frosts, while warm-season flowers and vegetables must be planted after the threat of frost has passed. Planting: Follow tag instructions when installing purchased plants. Dig a planting hole slightly wider and no deeper than the root ball. If plants are pot-bound, gently loosen the roots for better soil-to-root contact. When planting, work amended soil down around the roots to remove air pockets. Mulch newly installed plants (without covering their stems) to increase water retention. Watering & Feeding: All new plantings require regular water and fertilizer for good growth and establishment. Determine the moisture needs of your plants before establishing a regular watering program. Start a supplemental feeding program one week after planting. Consult your local garden center to determine the best year-round feeding program for your specific plants' needs. Cleaning: Clean beds are better beds. Remove old blossoms and dead leaves and stems from garden plants. Once vegetables have stopped producing, remove the old plants to reduce the chance for insects and disease problems. At the end of the season, cut back perennials, remove old annuals, and add fresh mulch to your beds.
